If you need to talk, you can do it on your phone or wifi device, not solely in a game. Games do not = freedom or rights of privacy.
The fact the president (who is actually SEGA behind the mask) wants to keep games completely separate from school jurisdiction is not realistic. All they have to do is make a law in the academy where students who get bad grades can't have PSO on campus. MMOs are like drugs, and there's no way the student council will win unless students' grades improve. This show is unrealistic because people who are super fit and "POPULAR" IRL would not be one of the best players in a MMO game. Still, being the best of the best or being one of the hardcore endgamers in an a MMORPG game does not go hand in hand with performing well in school. Maybe that's the future considering all the cloud-based virtual workspace capabilities we have now.

Also, there was a class I took in college where the professor actually encouraged us to install this second-rate MMO called "Second Life" and do assignments on there. However, MMOs are much more casual than back in the day, so it might be easier to manage your real life these days while playing. I think they beat themselves in their own argument since the president has poor IRL social skills? I know from experience that games, specifically MMOs where you feel obligated to show up to raids/events, cause a decline in grades for students with addictive personalities that neglect proper time management, and it encourages less IRL social interaction. The reason this show exists was made clear this episode: it is a PSA from SEGA to convince schools to not ban portable games by arguing that games = another form of communication.
